Strawberry Overnight Oats with Chia are a delicious and easy to make-ahead breakfast full of simple, healthy ingredients. Whip some up tonight and you'll be thanking yourself in the morning!
If you're not a morning person, overnight oats are the perfect breakfast for you! Not only are they super quick & easy to whip up the night before, but they're also the ideal grab & go breakfast to eat on your commute, at your desk, or between drop-offs on the school run!
Packed with protein, fibre and delicious strawberry goodness, you're going to want to make these every day.
Make them in a clean recycled jam or peanut butter jar, a mason jar, a glass container - anything goes here really! Or if you don't need to transport them, you can also just mix them up in your favourite breakfast bowl.
Are overnight oats good for weight loss?
As they're full of fibre, these overnight oats with strawberries will keep you fuller for longer, meaning you can skip the mid-morning munchies. This in turn can lead to eating less throughout the day and help you stick to your healthy eating goals.
Oats are naturally low calorie, and in this overnight oats recipe, the only sweetener is the juicy strawberries.
These strawberry overnight oats are also naturally vegan, and can easily be made gluten-free if you have an intolerance.
Strawberry Overnight Oats With Yogurt Ingredients
- Oats - great source of fibre, help to lower you cholesterol and blood pressure, reduce risk of getting cancer, make you feel full longer which helps with weight loss and keep your blood sugar levels in control and stabilized.
- Almond milk - Almonds are one of the healthiest nuts. They are packed with calcium, magnesium, potassium and vitamin E, which is great for your skin and hair. They lower the rise in blood sugar and ‘bad’ cholesterol, reduce heart attack risk as well as promote gastrointestinal health and even help to fight diabetes. Try making your own almond milk to reap the most benefits!
- Strawberries – apart from looking amazing and tasting delicious they are little red powerhouses full of vitamins C and K, folic acid, manganese and potassium. They are low in calories, high in fibre, help to lower cardiovascular disease, have anti-aging properties and guard against cancer.
- Yoghurt - you can use any plain white yoghurt, I love the Soya Greek Yoghurt. The yoghurt adds more protein, and makes the strawberry overnight oats more delicious and filling.
- Chia Seeds - To help to thicken the overnight oats. You can also use ground flax seeds.
- Vanilla Extract - To add that gorgeous vanilla flavour.
- Pinch of Salt - To bring out the natural sweetness of strawberries.
- Optional - 1 teaspoon of maple syrup, but it tastes delicious without it too.
If you need to make these strawberry overnight oats gluten-free, make sure to use certified gluten-free oats.
How to Make Vegan Overnight Oats
- Combine all ingredients together in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
- Spoon into a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
- Close and place in the fridge for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight before eating.
- In the morning the oats should be fully soaked up and thick
- You could add a dollop of yoghurt, chop up some extra strawberries and sprinkle them over the top.
Do you eat overnight oats hot or cold?
Whatever you fancy! Unlike a steaming bowl of porridge, most people will like to eat them cold, but if you’re not into cold oats, just warm them up in the microwave for around 45 seconds or in a small pot on the stove.
How long do overnight oats last in the fridge?
Up to 3 days, but if you have some nuts in them or dried fruit they might lose their crunch and texture and can turn a bit mushy. What you can do is add the toppings once you are ready to serve them. That way you could store them in the fridge for up to 5 days.
