Easy is my middle name, along with quick and simple. Cauliflower is my most favourite veggie at the moment. I mean, I literally eat it every day and today was no different because I made easy cauliflower steak recipe with an almond crust which the whole family polished off within minutes. That is including Sofia who doesn't usually like cauliflower.
The first week of January started really well. I went back to work, started my nutrition course, which I absolutely love, discovered sweet potato tagliatelle in Marks and Spencer and got five minutes of fame on BBC Radio 5 Live where I chatted with Adrian Chiles about clean eating. Not a bad start to the week and to the year of 2016 either, what do you reckon?
Easy cauliflower steak recipe
Now back to my easy cauliflower steak recipe. To start with, get a nice big cauliflower so you can make big chunky steaks. You basically slice the cauliflower into thick slices. Make sure you are using a big knife and don't worry if a few florets fall off. You will need the steaks to be either microwaved for a few minutes on high or steam them. Steaming is really easy and no fancy equipment required. I only used a big pan, and a lid/cover. I will describe the method in the recipe, but look at the pictures below too, that should help. Make sure you don't overcook or over-steam the cauliflower, go for that "tender" feeling.
Next step will be the batter for the steaks. I used coconut flour, but feel free to use buckwheat or spelt flour. You can dip them in whisked egg, or in unsweetened almond milk and then straight into the almond crust. Fry gently in coconut oil, if you are not in a rush preheat your oven to 190 and bake for around 20 minutes or until brown and crispy.
I fry always in coconut oil, but olive oil is great too. Set the pan on medium heat and watch the steaks carefully as they get burned easily

Easy cauliflower steak recipe
The perfect mid week dinner for the whole family is this easy cauliflower steak recipe which will cost you less than 2 pounds and 30 minutes of your time!
Ingredients
- 1 large cauliflower
- 1 egg or ½ cup unsweetened almond milk if you are vegan
- ½ cup coconut flour (you can use buckwheat or spelt flour too)
- ½ cup almonds
- 1 big handful parsley
- 2 teaspoon paprika
- salt and pepper to taste
- coconut oil for frying
Instructions
- Using a sharp knife, cut off the leaves from the bottom of the cauliflower and trim off the very bottom of the stem. Cut the cauliflower into 3-4 'steaks'
- Get a big pan, add a bit of water (approx ¼ cup), bring it to the boil and place in the steaks. Cover with a lid and steam for around 5 minutes on a low heat.
- Once steamed let it cool down completely and season with salt and pepper on each side. Set aside
- The almond crust is next. Pop the whole almonds, parsley and paprika in your food processor and combine until there are no big almond chunks left.
- Take one steak at a time and coat it in the flour, then dip in the egg /milk and then in the almond crust. Pat it a bit to ensure the crust sticks to the steak.
- Heat a bit of coconut oil in the pan and fry the steaks for approximately 3 minutes on each side or until brown and crisp.
This is not only an easy cauliflower steak recipe, but also dinner for the whole family which can cost you less than 2 pounds and will not take longer than 30 minutes. Serve it with fresh chopped parsley and drizzle with fresh lemon juice, if you wish.

I tried it. It tasted great. I could not get my cauliflower to look like yours, mine more or less fell apart but there were some larger pieces. I didn't have enough almonds so I mixed 1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds with 1/4 cup shredded coconut and 1/4 cup cashews, included the parsley. The coconut really made it specie, so next time I would use more shredded coconut. Thanks. It was fun to try it and its just so good for you.

Next time try to cut out thicker "steaks". I know cauli is tricky to work with sometimes though. I love the shredded coconut version! Hedi xxx
