Hello YOU! I am loving the Easter break so much, I really don't want to go to work! Today I want to share with you a nice story. As I said in my previous post Super Choccy Smoothie done by Mel and Jamie from 3D Fitness I am very lucky to have friends with the same passion for a healthy lifestyle, good food and fitness and one such friend is Ondrej from Omnutritionist and his yummy Omnisuperfood. His story (and photos) just shows that you can build muscles on a vegan diet and the benefits of raw protein powders. I personally love the chocolatey taste of the women's range. My skin has never been better and energy levels higher! I use it not only in my smoothies, but also porridge, energy balls or baking. Ondrej is not only my personal trainer but also a good friend and he was kind enough to offer a discount code for all of you (hedi10) which will give you 10% off! Ok, now time to pass the virtual pen to him.
As a young boy I was always very ill. I suffered from tonsillitis and had pneumonia twice. I remember having such a high temperature that I hallucinated and had to be wrapped in cold bed-sheets to keep my temperature down. We were going to doctors and hospitals all the time, but the doctors' only advice was to try as many antibiotics as possible as a cure. The only results I got from this was the complete destruction of my immune system. I got a little better once my tonsils were removed. I still got colds and my health still wasn't great, and I also put on some weight. It took many years for my immune system to recover. As I didn't really know about what to eat, I would normally have bread with butter, cheese, and meat.
When I was around 14 years old I saw a documentary about slaughterhouses and how the animals were treated. On that day I made a decision not to support such a horrifying industry and became a vegetarian. A few years later I became vegan. Around the same age I started exercising,my dad had one dumbbell and later on I borrowed a barbell with 27 kg of weight. At that time my motivation was mostly to become stronger than the others – and of course to look better for the girls 😉 Years later I found myself in London and started working here as a kitchen porter, washing dishes and cleaning toilets. Through friends I discovered the raw food diet and stayed on it for 9 months. It was an amazing experience, but I found it quite impractical if I wanted to go out with friends or even when I was traveling on holiday, so I went back to a normal diet. Immediately I discovered that I didn't feel as good as I was used to; I had less energy and my overall health was not as good.
So here my search began. I started looking for compounds and foods that would help me to feel as good as I was used to from my raw food diet. I discovered Superfoods through David Wolfe who at that time was a great inspiration on my journey. I was going to the gym at least 3 times per week and tried creatine and other mainstream products. They worked, but I realised that this was only a short term solution. It purely concentrated on muscle gain but wasn't doing anything for the body in terms of health, in fact it was quite the opposite. I realised that if I continued to take these things for a long period of time I would risk damaging my kidneys and liver and surely many other organs. So I wanted to find a natural, plant-based source of protein which would help me to gain muscle while also promoting my long term health. My first purchase was hemp protein. At 50% bioabsorbable protein, once my body adjusted to the recognisable source, I started seeing results. I wasn't as big anymore but was more flexible and stronger. Then I discovered cacao powder. Suddenly I was having the full benefits of cacao every day – my food cravings stopped, due to the antioxidant power of cacao. At the same time I felt very happy because of the tryptophan, which is one of the brain chemicals in cacao, from the same family as the “feel-good” neurotransmitter serotonin.
Maca powder gave me loads of power, endurance and energy in the gym – and also in my intimate life my stamina was through the roof. At that time I would have 5 different jars with individual superfoods and would use a spoon of one and 2 spoons of another one. It was working for me, but the preparation was time-consuming. So here the idea came to combine all the superfoods with herbs and spices so it tastes great and is quick to make. And this was the simple beginning of my product range OMNI Superfood.
At this stage of my life I was watching many videos, reading loads of books and trying to educate myself in the field of nutrition and fitness. I was working in a call centre and still wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. I knew that I wanted to help people but it took a while for me to realise that I was already on the journey to become a nutritionist and Personal Trainer. This was what I was already doing in my private life, sharing my knowledge amongst my friends and work colleagues.
I gained my qualifications and became self-employed and started training people, helping them with their nutrition and fitness goals. Also I was able to use some of the knowledge which I gained through many years of meditation. I got a window into people’s life situations and problems, their drama and trauma. And trust me – there is no better feeling than being able to change someone’s life and to make them smile and shine.
Helping people one-on-one is great, but it doesn't’ scale so well. So after a long time of preparation, we finally launched our online shop on the 15th of January 2015, and are currently working towards making our superfood range available to everyone in different ways, as I strongly believe that taking superfood can be a life-changing experience. I have gained a level of health I never dreamed of and can not even remember the last I time I was ill. I only use my superfood to support my gym activities, and I keep getting stronger and leaner. I wish all readers the same!
All the best,
