Looking for an easy green smoothie recipe but not sure where to start? Well, this recipe takes literally 5 minutes to make and provides you with a healthy dose of veggies while being absolutely delicious.
Are green smoothies really that good for you?
Yes, they are. Think about it...you get a good portion of greens in you already at breakfast, plus green smoothie is delicious without the taste of greens. I believe it's the small things we do every day that can make the biggest difference and this easy green smoothie recipe is just it.
What greens to put in green smoothie?
Whatever you fancy. I love spinach, kale, cucumber, courgette, celery, romaine lettuce or even broccoli, cauliflower leaves or carrot tops.
I promise you won't taste the greens much, because they get blitzed together with the sweetness of banana, mango, pineapple or cherries as well as almond or oat milk and some seeds or nuts for a portion of good fats.
You can also add protein powder if you wish too. Add 1 - 2 tablespoons and add more milk too otherwise the smoothie will become too thick.
How to make green smoothie?
It's really easy. Simply blend all the ingredients listed below in a high speed blender or food processor until smooth, pour into a glass or a bowl and enjoy straight away.
I like my smoothie served as a smoothie bowl topped with some delicious toppings such as berries, nut butters and more.
Quick tip for you: Before you start blending, it helps to let your frozen fruit or veggies thaw for 5 minutes. You may have to scrape down the insides of the blender as you go occasionally.
Ingredients:
- Spinach - you will need a cup of greens of your choice. I always go for a mixture of spinach, kale and whatever else I have in the fridge
- Banana - frozen banana works the best, because it makes the green smoothie so creamy and sweet. Frozen mango or pineapple or apples are also delicious. If you want to keep it lighter use half a banana and the other half replace with frozen cauliflower.
- Milk - I love unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any milk. Coconut milk works particularly well if using mango or pineapple. Got coconut water? Tropical green smoothie here we come!
- Nut Butter - I love adding nut butters to make my green smoothie. Peanut butter is firm favourite closely followed by cashew nut butter. For nut free green smoothie use tahini.
- Chia Seeds - They are loaded with nutrients, so I add them into many of my meals. If you don't have chia seeds use ground flax seeds.
METHOD:
- Place all ingredients in your blender and blend until smooth and creamy
- Add more milk if the smoothie is too thick
- Pour into a glass or pour into a bow and add your favourite toppings
