    Green coco and maca smoothie

smoothieHappy Friday! I know smoothies might not be your thing in this freezing cold weather ( currently -1c here in UK) but I personally cannot get enough. I am more of a smoothie princess rather than juicing queen.  (check out my Clean chocolate smoothie) There are few reasons why I am a blender kind of girl. First of all smoothies have fiber and pulp, which means they are thick, more filling and satisfy me for longer. Fiber slows the rate of digestion and causes a more gradual and lower rise in your blood sugar levels. Be careful when juicing , always add your greens for balance, pure fruit juices could create a blood sugar spike which might result in feeling tired and lack of energy. I can use bananas and avocados ( my top favourites) in smoothies, but you can't juice them. Smoothies are cheaper to make and there is no food waste because you are using the whole food.

smoothie 1Green smoothies in particular are so good for you. My top favourite ingredients in green smoothies are spinach, kale, chard, avocado and rocket for a little bit of kick! Kale in particular is the most nutrient dense green. Last but not the least smoothies helps things moving, they  keep your colon and intestines clean and regular. Now let's get on with the recipe.smoothie 3

    Ingredients:
1.5  cup of coconut water ( I used 1 teaspoon of Coco Hydro mixed with water)
    1 big handful of spinach
    1 handful of kale
1 ripe banana or 1 cup of frozen banana
    1 tangerine
    1 teaspoon Maca powder
2 dates or any other sweetener
    Method:
Blend all ingredients until smooth and top with hemp seeds. Serve over ice and enjoy!

    Much love,
    Hedi
