I have a weekend project for you...Fruit Infused Water 3 Ways! It's delicious, refreshing, fruity, easy and makes drinking those recommended 6 - 8 glasses of water a day so much easier.
It’s time to get the whole family involved in this one and it’s super simple and even more delicious but most importantly it keeps your whole family hydrated, happy and healthy.
Especially now the weather is (hopefully) getting a little brighter and warmer, staying hydrated is key to staying in tip-top shape.
I know it can be difficult to get your family, especially little ones to drink water, so these deliciously infused waters are not only fun to create with your family as they get stuck in with all their favourite flavours.
How Long Should You Infuse Water?
I would say at least 2 hours but I have left mine overnight in the fridge and it was so good and refreshing the next day!
I wouldn't leave the fruit in the water for more than 24 hours though. It will start looking a bit off and the fruit will start turning sour.
What is the best thing to infuse in water?
Any fruit, fresh herbs and even some veggies are good to infuse in water. I love watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, kiwi, apples, orange, tangerines, lemon, lime, cucumber and more.
The only fruit I wouldn't use is banana, it doesn't work, I have tried it 🙂
As far as herbs go I adore basil, mint, rosemary, and thyme. Try adding whole spices like cinnamon sticks for a deep flavour.
How to Make Fruit Infused Water
The amount of ingredients you use is depending on how much water you’re infusing and how much flavour you want to add. The more ingredients you add, the more intense the flavour will be. I like to add a lot!
- Place all the ingredients for the fruit infused water into a glass, a jug, a pitcher, or water bottle
- Pour the water, add ice cubes and stir to combine
- For the best result pop the jug or the pitcher in the fridge for an hour or two or even overnight
- Yes, you can eat all the fruit after you’ve drunk your infused water. I eat it all the time
My Fruit Infused Water 3 Ways
Here are my favourite fruit infused water flavours! They are the perfect combination of fruit, veggies, and fresh herbs to make and sip on all day long.
For a colourful drink, gently mash the strawberries or blueberries before adding water. Leave overnight and it should have a pretty colour the next day. The kids will love it!
Strawberry + Basil
One of my most favourite flavours. Gently sweet with a light basil kick. I can never get enough of this combination.
Moreover strawberries are full of vitamin C and basil is known to help with lowering blood pressure, so double win!
Cucumber + Apple + Mint
Apple and mint are just amazing together. Now add cucumber to the mix and you get a very refreshing and clean flavours.
Cucumbers are extra hydrating, mint is very cooling and aids digestion and apple just adds a gentle sweet flavour and helps with lowering your blood pressure. The perfect trio!
Blueberry + Lemon
Blueberries are nature's superfood. Loaded with nutrients and vitamins, they help with regulating your blood sugar levels, they are good antioxidants and they help with fighting inflammation.
Now pair blueberries with lemon and you get not only refreshing and clean flavours, but a power duo that keeps the body healthy in so many different ways.
You could use frozen fruit too if you can't get fresh. Please note frozen fruit is not as flavourful and breaks down much quicker than fresh fruit.
Sparkling water works well too and my daughter says it makes it more special 🙂
